Recommended Arrival
Because the journey can take several hours, some visitors travelling long distances may find it more comfortable to arrive in the UK on Saturday 1 August and continue the journey on Sunday morning.
Many international visitors find it convenient to stay overnight near London Waterloo Station, where there are several hotels within walking distance of the station (for example Premier Inn or Park Plaza).
However, this overnight stay is not essential, and some visitors — particularly those travelling from Europe via Gatwick Airport — may find it practical to travel directly to Dorchester on Sunday depending on their flight arrival time.
Travelling from Heathrow Airport
- Take the Elizabeth Line from Heathrow Airport → Paddington Station
- From Paddington, take the Bakerloo Line Underground → Waterloo Station
- From Waterloo, take the direct train to Dorchester South
Travel time from Waterloo to Dorchester South is approximately 3 hours.
Travelling from Gatwick Airport
For visitors travelling from Europe, Gatwick Airport can sometimes be the most convenient option.
Typical journey:
- Train Gatwick Airport → Clapham Junction or Southampton
- Change trains → Dorchester South
Journey time is usually 3–5 hours depending on connections, and it may be possible to reach Dorchester during the afternoon on Sunday.
